This carving is made from Mahogany wood and depicts a traditional Maori door lintel. These carvings are mounted above a doorway to prevent evil spirits from entering. The lintel (pare) above the doorway is considered one of the most important carvings.
You cannot easily buy such a carving as most carvers only make these to order due the the large amount of work involved.
