Carved Bone Heru Combs:

Heru in this collection are individually carved bone combs featuring a range of Kiwiana designs, including koru, hook, manaia and twist forms. With both small and larger styles represented, the range combines the practical form of a comb with decorative carved motifs associated with New Zealand and Māori design.

Koru Heru Designs:

Koru motifs feature prominently across the collection. Options include a small closed koru heru, a small koru family design and triple koru combs in both small and large formats. The koru is described within the range as representing new beginnings, growth and regeneration.

The small koru designs are compact, with examples measuring around 150–155mm long and 25–30mm wide. The large triple koru heru measures 150mm long by 35mm wide, providing a broader carved design while retaining a similar overall length.

Hook & Manaia Heru:

Hook-shaped carvings provide another distinctive style. The collection includes small and large bone hook heru, along with small and large manaia hook designs. For a more prominent carved piece, there is also an extra-large manaia heru.

These variations make it useful to compare not only overall dimensions but also the shape and scale of the decorative section when choosing a heru.

Twist & Symbolic Bone Combs:

Twist designs include a small triple twist heru and a large double twist version. The twist motif is described in the product range as representing the path of life and the strong bond between loved ones. The small triple twist measures 150mm long by 25mm wide.
